Quilting the
Rainbow

Created to document Quilting the Rainbow—a community-led art initiative marking 40 years of Cork’s Gay Project and the arrival of the Irish Names AIDS Memorial Quilt—this short-form documentary explores queer memory, place and personal histories through interviews, photography and motion graphics. While the project began with a focus on Cork’s geography as a site of Queer experience, each participant’s work gradually became more intimate and introspective. Through an intergenerational lens—featuring artists in their 20s, 40s and 60s—the film captures reflections on the evolving Queer experience in Ireland, the legacy of the AIDS crisis and the social and scientific progress around HIV. My role was to document this unfolding process with sensitivity, maintaining a quiet, observational tone that foregrounded the emotion, texture and significance of both the quilts and the people behind them.
